Dr. E. Marie McDade was born and raised in a poor family on Detroit’s eastside. She has over 30 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including more than 20 years in behavioral health treating patients with serious, chronic mental illness, dual diagnoses, substance use disorders, anger management, and those needing trauma-focused care. She has over 20 years of experience in community-based activism in Detroit’s inner-city, developing and implementing prevention and early intervention educational programming and support for children, adolescents, and women, some Christian-based. She served as the Director of Nursing in a State Psychiatric Hospital and she also served as a Clinical Nurse Manager in the only State Psychiatric Hospital, in the State of Michigan, for adult convicted felons. She is a board-certified, independently licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, through the ANCC and the State of Michigan. She holds a Ph.D. in nursing with a concentration in bio-behavioral health from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Master of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing also from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. McDade was the primary investigator for her doctoral research project titled: The Impact of Self-Reported Attachment Style on Aggression and Depressed Mood in Urban African American Adolescents. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. She treats adults and adolescents 13 years and older. Dr. McDade has experience working with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations and with high-risk minority populations.
